Hugh Anthony Disward apprend le meurtre de son grand-père, le comte Wesley Disward, un grand collectionneur de livres, et décide de se rendre dans sa résidence. Une fois arrivé, Hugh fait la rencontre d'une mystérieuse jeune fille, Dalian, qui vivait avec son grand-père, de son vivant, et il lui annonce qu'il hérite de la Bibliothèque mystique de Dantalian.
